Washington, DC – June 20, 2016 – Before legendary 20th century African American photographers Gordon Parks, Robert H. McNeill (DC native) and James Van Der Zee there was D.C.’s famed AA photographer Addison Scurlock. Yesterday, marked Mr. Scurlock’s (b. June 19, 1883 – December 12, 1964) 133rd birthday anniversary who documented and lensed the life and cultural legacy of 20th-century Black Washington in his storied Scurlock Studio, 900 ‪U Street‬, NW on ‪D.C.’s BlackBroadway‬. This week ‪the Black Broadway on U project commemorates and celebrates some of his most notable portraits and we’ll post a few of our fav “Scurlock” look pics on our social media pages too.
